Catherine’s Health Center
Executive Director
Grand Rapids, MI
Karen Kaashoek is the executive director of Catherine’s Health Center. She received an associate’s degree in nursing from Purdue University, a bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, and education from Calvin College, and an Master of Business Administration from Marylhurst University. She has worked in health care for more than 30 years in various capacities, including long-term care settings as an undergraduate, a registered nurse in acute and ambulatory care, and currently as the CEO of a privately funded, nonprofit, safety-net medical clinic. These varied experiences in the health care continuum with diverse, at-risk populations give her a unique perspective of the devastating costs borne by the individual and the community when people do not have access to basic health care. Karen also serves on the board of the Free Clinics of Michigan and on the governance committee of the Michigan Cancer Consortium.
